For some of our residents, living at St. James Place has always been a part of the plan. Take Linda Roy for example. As one of our second generation residents, she and her husband, Dr. Aaron Roy, always knew that St. James Place was where they’d spend their golden years – and a big part of that was due to Linda’s mother Eldine Colligan. When Mrs. Colligan was looking for a more care-free lifestyle, Linda helped her search for the best place to settle in and, after a lot of research, they felt St. James Place was the best fit to fill both her wants and needs.

“She was so happy with the move, and shortly afterwards she told me she wished she hadn’t waited so long!” said Linda, thinking back on the decision process.

When it was time for Linda and her husband to think about their own future, they knew – based on their weekly dinner visits – that there was no need to look any further. The Roys moved to St. James Place in 2018, sharing life on our campus with Linda’s mother for several years.

Linda’s story is just one of many second generation residents currently living at St. James Place. Another one of our legacy residents, Taris Savell, moved all the way from Pensacola, Florida to settle down at St. James Place in 2015.

Better known by some as the “Boondock’s Barbara Walters,” Taris followed in her aunt and uncle Richard and Anna Lipsey’s footsteps, knowing that St. James Place would be able to meet her needs then and in the future.

She loves the peace of mind that living at St. James Place is able to bring her family, and knows what it feels like firsthand from the days she would visit her aunt and uncle. She also can’t get enough of the SJP community. Upon moving to town, she dove right in and has served on various committees and joined several clubs, staying active and enjoying all that St. James Place has to offer.

Being able to see life from both sides has shown these second generation residents just how special this place can be, both as a resident and as a loved one.

“Plus, they are eternally grateful that they don’t have to have me live with them,” laughed another second generation resident, Mimi Riché, when asked what her children love most.

Here’s what some of our other Second Generation Residents had to say:

  • “We and (Our Children) feel that we are well taken care of and secure!” - Pat & Harold Price

  • “Woof Woof!” - ‘Little Bear’ Price - Pat and Harold’s dog is also a 2nd generation resident!

  • “No More Lawns to mow!” - John M. Tyler

  • “My favorite thing about St. James Place is the people!” - Barbara Hughes

  • “(Our Children) know that we are happy, love the community, and have access to healthcare on campus!” - C. Lee & Barrie Griffin
